Thixomolding
Thixomolding technology was developed in the United States in the late 1980s, primarily using magnesium pellets, which differs from magnesium billets used in die-casting. The technology adopts an injection forming mode with semi solid magnesium alloy, similar to the plastic injection-molding method, for producing light metal work objects, i.e. by heating metal pellets or fragments to a solid-liquid coexisting state, which is sheared with threaded lever and the slurry is pushing out, forcing the magnesium alloy slurry into an injection forming process without making contact with air.
Waffer Technology has pioneered the proprietary semi solid injection-forming technology for producing lighter and more refined magnesium alloy products than its rivals are capable of, with unpainted workpiece capable of reaching an ultra-thin dimension of 0.6 to 0.7mm. Besides, the semi solid injection-forming is deemed more environmentally friendly, as no SF6 or SO2 gases damaging to the ozone layer and creating acid rain are needed in the production process, and no oxidized magnesium alloy slag is produced either. In terms of the tooling life cycle, since the semi solid injection-forming technology does not require completely dissolving the magnesium pellets, the tools only need to withstand lower temperatures, and thus are less susceptible to normal wear and tear, helping to extend the life cycle of the tools.
